How do you watch a film at the cinema, if you can't hear the words?
How do you wake up in the morning, if you can't hear your alarm clock?
How do you know someone is at the door, if you can't hear the knock?
How do you know you baby is crying, if you can't hear those cries?
How do you know of a platform change at a train station, if you can't hear the announcement?
These are questions 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people across the UK have to answer each day. Four of these people are Mike, my husband, Clare, my sister and Bryony and Conor, two very good friends of mine.
The RNID (www.rnid.org.uk ) is a charity set up to try and help these 9 million people. they provide advice, information, deaf awareness across the UK and technologies to help people in their every day lives.
I completed my 180mile cycle ride from London to Paris on the 29th September 2008, after a 3 day cycle. There were some challanging bits, especially the uphills. However, the atmosphere and sense of achievement once I reached the Eiffel Tower far overpowered the harder bits of the journey.
There is still time to make a donation to this charity so please, if you haven't already, donate today!
This is something that I would love to do again, so it can't have been that bad!! Be warned, I am now on the hunt for a team to do it next year.
