Story
Welcome to my Virgin Marathon 2010 fundraising page
In July 2008, due to my father having a massive Heart attack, I started running. My first ever competition run was the Nike Human Race 10K, held at Wembly on 31/08/2008, for which I raised, close to £800 for charity. My next run was another 10K, held at Lea Athletics Centre. After running this race I decided to step up a gear and run a Half Marathon in on 02/11/08. That was it; I had caught the running bug & decided to go for the big one! I entered Flora London Marathon 2009 and completed it in 5hours 20mins with injuries to both knees and managed to raise in excess of £1900 for charity! In 2010 I hope to raise in excess of £2000.00 for Heart Research and hopefully a faster time.
During my training for the Virgin London Marathon 2010 I’ll be entering many competitive runs and some long distance cycle rides starting with the to on 26th July 2009. So this year my sponsors will get more value for money as my legs will be suffering in many competitions! I’ll keep this page updated as I enter more competitions. Please visit this page regularly to see my competitions entries.
I chose Heart Research for my charity this time because Heart Disease is ’s biggest killer. Heart disease has touched most of us in some way. It can strike anyone. Some are born with it, others only find out when it is too late. In fact, 700 people in the suffer a heart attack every day - that’s one every two minutes.
Heart Research paid for 6 of the 8 first successful heart transplants, carried out by Sir Terence English at . Many things that we now take for granted, such as heart valves, angioplasty and more recently, amazing artificial heart pumps, would not have been developed when they were, without their help. You can read all about their research here - http://www.heartresearch.org.uk/
Running the Virgin London Marathon is no simple task. For someone like me it takes months of training. My training will consist of four weekly runs, 1 long distance road run, fast paced road run, treadmill hill run & tread mill fast paced run. On my spare days I do weight training or cycling. Already I'm running in excess of 20 miles per week and its only Jul 09! Each week my long distance road run will increase until I reach over 20 miles. So there you go, an insight into what's involved in running a marathon.
