Staff in the Western Health and Social Care Trust (N.Ireland) have
started a fund-raising campaign to help set up much-needed eye-care
services for children in an eye hospital in Kano, Nigeria. In Nigeria childhood blindness is common and over half of these children will die young as a result. Blindness in children is largely preventable, and there is a desperate need for an eyecare programme for children in this area. We are taking part in a wider VISION
2020 Links Programme which will be run in conjuction with CBM
and the International Centre for Eye Health. To find out more about how the money will be spent please visit our blog/website at www.vision2020kano.org.
The eyecare team from the E.C.W.A hospital in Kano, Nigeria visited the Western Trust in Nov/Dec 2009. Following discussions, plans for the next 3 years of the links programme have now been agreed, and as a result the fundraising target has been increased to £30,000. We will be giving more details in the near future about how this will be spent - please check the website for details.
