Viv's climb of UP at the O2 in Greenwich · 23 June 2013

RSBC believe every blind child and their family should have the skills and confidence they need to live their life without limits. We work with blind children and young people and their families to develop the skills they need to overcome the barriers to realising their hopes, dreams and ambitions.

Story

I'll be climbing the O2 to support The Great Greenwich Give in July.

The Great Greenwich Give is aiming to raise an ambitious £24,000 in 24 hours on Wednesday 24 July for two charities close to my heart - Blind Independence Greenwich (B.I.G) and RLSB.

I am a trustee if B.I.G which is a small but growing organisation serving blind and partially sighted people in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Sight loss can be isolating and the people we help are usually on low incomes, too. We try to address these problems with practical help and financial advice. Many people assume that the government will take care of

blind people, but there is no automatic entitlement to state assistance. So it is up to us as neighbours to help each other.

There are over 945 names on Greenwich Council's register of seriously sight-impaired people and probably 1,500 more local people living with degrees of sight loss. We try to reach all of those who can benefit from our services.

Many thanks for supporting both my climb and the 1,000 blind and vision impaired people in Greenwich, it means a lot.
