Ty Olwen Trust was founded in 1981 to provide extra comforts and amenities for patients under Ty Olwen's care, not normally provided by the health authority. Ty Olwen cares for patients and families with advanced incurable disease, and consists of an inpatient unit, hospital and community teams and day center.

Most people in Swansea know people or have relatives and friends who have received care at Ty Olwyn, whether for Cancers or other nasties. My maternal grandmother ended her days there, as did my fathers' cousin, and one of my friends' wife who has been struggling with horrific cancer for years regularly stays in the hospice to give her family respite.
