My story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Our challenge was to cycle approximately 800 miles in 10 days, starting and finishing from RAF Waddington, taking in the 3 RAFA Respite Homes.

WE DID IT!

Total Distance Covered: 738 miles

Day 11: The last leg from Selby to Waddington should have been an easy one, but the wind (always against us over the last 10 days) made the final run for home a bit of a slog. Nonetheless we arrived at Waddington late in the afternoon to a very warm reception from colleagues and family. Thank you all for your support.

Day 10: Penultimate day on the road and it couldn't have been a tougher day.  Wind and heavy rain most of the day made the going very slow.  Have tonight to dry out before the final 70 miles for home tomorrow.  See you all soon,

Day 9: Steady going today and still on the pace despite the wind. The aches and pains have been improving, but then again we might just be numb to it now.

Day 8: Past the 500 mile point and with luck should be back at Waddington Saturday afternoon. (16 May). It’s all south bound from here.

Day 7: Completed the Shap and Hartside peaks and apart from 3 punchers, all on Sarah’s bike, everything going well. We’re even slightly ahead of schedule and hope to be home sometime on Saturday.

Day 6: We plodded through Monday ok but the sore knees, aches and pains continue but hopefully we’ll get some recovery overnight as the hills and summits approach.

Day 5: Halfway and it’s getting really tough going now. A couple of slight injuries and bike problems are making it a real challenge but morale is high and we’re still on schedule.

Day 4: Saturday went well but several technical problems with the bikes have given us a few headaches. Looks like Rod and Jane will be searching for a bike shop tomorrow as Steve needs a new back wheel.

Day 3: Friday was a tough day, slow going with the wind against us all the way to Weston. Very tired troops tonight! Tomorrow we head back north, so fingers crossed the wind will be behind us for a change.

Day 2: All went well today, just one puncture, one dog rescue, one dog attack and a couple of minor scratches to the bikes. Other than that, all good.

Day 1: We set off as schedule at 0800 on Wednesday 06 May 09 and thank you for all the support at the send off. We had a head wind all the way yesterday but things are going well.

Route: From RAF Waddington we are heading south to Flowerdown House inWeston-Super-Mare. We then head north to the Richard Peck House at Lytham St Annes, no time to stop at thePleasureBeach though. Then across thePennines to Rothbury House in Morpeth before the long trek back home.

All monies raised with go towards the 3 Respite Homes which provide everything from a short break to residency for Ex RAF Personnel.
