Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of disease. Our research includes cancer, Parkinson's and other diseases and could save millions of lives by improving diagnostics. We already help people manage complex, life-threatening medical conditions by training Medical Alert Dogs.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit 'The Walk In The Dark' JustGiving page.

Dog owners across the country are taking part in a Walk in the Dark this October to raise money for the charity Medical Detection Dogs.

The fundraising event, sponsored by Collarways with Intellidogs and Big Walkies will also highlight the importance of visibility when dog walking, especially when the nights draw in at autumn time.

We have 12 walks scheduled all across the UK during the week beginning 10th October. It is a great way to get together for a fun, sociable event, whilst raising essential funds for a very good cause. Check our Walk in the Dark calendar to find out whether there is a walk near you that you could join.

Medical Detection Dogs trains specialist assistance dogs to help save the lives of people with medical conditions such as type 1 diabetes and Addison’s disease. The charity’s first achievement was successfully training dogs to sniff out cancer in human urine samples.

The charity would like to help more people with life- threatening and disabling medical conditions, but can only do so through continued financial support from the public.

Collarways are donating £1 for every dog that walks wearing a Leuchtie LED collars. Leuchtie collars provide a constant light source to ensure optimal visibility from dawn to dusk in all weather conditions. Visit the Leuchtie website for more information, including dates and locations for walks already organised.

There is a 50 per cent increase in road accidents involving dogs during the winter months and many of these could be easily avoided if dogs were more visible to road users.

Find out how you can organise your own Walk in the Dark event at www.walkinthedark.org

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
