Story

I'm walking 21 miles on the 21 December - the longest walk on the shortest day! - to make one of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's most fantastic nature reserves even better for wildlife and people!

I'll be walking the Harrogate Ringway footpath in a race against the clock to finish the route before it gets dark.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has recently doubled in size Staveley nature reserve near Knaresborough by buying adjacent land. But the Trust needs to raise additional funds to turn the extension into a wildlife haven.

Your generous support will help the Trust to turn ex-quarrying land into a beautiful wildflower meadow, supporting bumblebees and butterflies. Thanks to your sponsorship YWT will also be able to plant reedbeds for warblers and buntings to nest in; and create muddy areas for wading birds to feed in. The Trust will also install two new bird hides and create a new footpath so that you can get the most out of visiting this stunning green space.

Already a wonderful place to see butterflies, dragonflies, bee orchids, and yellowhammers, and to catch a glimpse of a barn owl or an otter, with your help YWT can make Staveley an even better place for Yorkshire's wildlife!

Thanks for reading and please give whatever you can - if I reach my target, I'm sure I'll be able to make the 21 miles before dark!
