Story

Help us to raise £7500 for ONE water to pay for 1 African water PlayPump see the One Water website for details.

NEWS, February 2010
We are pleased to announce that the funding for a water pump in Malawi is now complete. Some anonymous donations sent to One Water have been passed on to our fund meaning that we have now raised the require £7500 for the pump. These donations for £800 are being added to the £6700 we raised.

In 2 to 3 months Onewater will supply us with details of the exact location of the village in Malawi where pure water can be pumped from the water table. We will post more details here in 2 to 3 months, but in the meantime we would like to extend our thanks to all those who have walked sponsored or generally encouraged this endeavour. The pump will have a dedicated sign and we are proposing to say the following: This pump is dedicated to the life and times of Kevin Thompson (1953 to 2008) of London, whose family and friends walked 250 miles around Britain in Summer 2009 to raise the money

NEWS, December 2009
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We have now completed the walks outlined below but are carrying on! Caroline will continue walking once her foot injury has healed.  One Water have suggested that the water pump be placed in Malawi, a country of desperate need. With the gift aid, we have raised £6599, leaving £901 still to raise in 2010.  Caroline's intention is that this is completed by the end of June.

Again, a big thank you to all those who have sponsored us so far, please feel free to continue to sponsor Caroline who will just keep walking until that total is reached...

One Water Heroes
Following his death from cancer on September 28th, 2008 Kevin Thompson was nominated as a One Water Hero. The charity makes a real difference to thousands of lives. PlayPump® water systems are powered by children at play.

One Water comments on Kevin’s contribution:
“Many people have been involved in the development and success of One water and we would particularly like to recognise the contribution that Kevin Thompson from Brandsmiths made to this project. His death has left a great hole in many hearts and minds and he will be very much missed as a friend and a mentor. His legacy lives on in the hundreds of thousands of lives he's helped to change in Africa.”

The Walks
Beginning with a walk along the Thames Path from Hampton Court to Putney on May 30th 2009, a series of walks by family and friends to celebrate and remember the life of  the late Kevin Thompson will  be organised by Helen Storey, Kevin’s widow and Caroline Coates of the Helen Storey Foundation. Family and friends are invited to walk on May 30th.

In June and July Caroline will also complete a series of day walks (5 to 20 miles each), beginning in Aberdeenshire and ending in Cornwall, personally clocking up at least 250 miles. She welcomes anyone interested in walking and talking in Aberdeenshire, Dundee, Edinburgh, Borders, Lake District, parts of the Dales and Pennine Ways, Coast to Coast, Peak District, Cotswolds, Bristol area and Devon and Cornwall coastal path.
Cheques are also welcome, please make cheques payable to Helen Storey Foundation (every penny will go direct to One Water). To participate or learn more contact Helen or Caroline by emailing info@helenstoreyfoundation.org please also see www.helenstoreyfoundation.org

"We used to walk.

The first, across Hampstead Heath, slowly, finding out who you were, as you did me,
The day vanished, so we walked the night too.

We always walked after that.

Along the Thames path, to dream of our garden, to guess at other people’s history, to fathom and invent, to laugh and to feel each second was close to the next.

In gratitude, at identical pace, and equal in everything that matters.

As time went by, the walks got shorter, until you couldn’t walk any more.
The last, towards the front door, and into the back of the ambulance.

The same pace now, towards memory, and still in silent disbelief; without you.
But walk.
"
Helen Storey, February 2009
