Story
Last year my Nan passed away. She was an amazing character and I have so many brilliant memories of her. However, for as long as I can remember she suffered with Parkinson's disease and over the years I saw first hand what a debilitating and cruel disease it can be.
I hate to throw statistics at you, but this is not a small problem - every hour in the UK someone is told that they have Parkinson's disease. There is no cure, and it just gets worse even with treatment. Patients and their families need more and more support as it progresses, and this is one of the things that Parkinson's UK help to provide. They are also the biggest charity funder of Parkinson's research, working to improve treatments and find a much needed cure.
One thing that my Nan really benefited from was a Parkinson's specialist nurse who helped to ensure that she got the care she needed and felt supported. However, not every person with Parkinson's is lucky enough to have a specialist nurse. This is one of the many things that Parkinson's UK want to change.
So I had the crazy idea to sign up for the 100km London to Brighton Challenge to raise money in memory of my Nan for the work that Parkinson's UK are doing. This will involve me walking non stop, through the day and night, probably getting many blisters and wondering why on earth four months ago this seemed like a good idea!
I need to raise at least £400 to take part, but obviously more is not a problem! Any money that you are able to donate would be amazing, every little bit really does help and means a lot to me.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
I'd better go and get training!
