I am a final year archaeology student at Sheffield University.  Having spent a month this summer digging the Roman site at Sedgefield, I decided to find out more about the Roman Wall - by walking it.  With two student friends, I intend to set out on 8 August and hope to complete the 84 mile walk from west to east within the week, camping along the way.

I decided to take the opportunity to raise money through sponsorship for County Durham Foundation.

Update 17 August

Arrived at Segedunum at approx 5pm on Monday 14 August, within the target we set ourselves.  Sadly, one of our trio had to go home early when an old knee injury flared up.  However, he did complete the walk on an earlier occasion so it wasn't too much of a disappointment for him. 

It's a great sense of achievement to have walked the full 84 miles of the wall, but I don't think I'll be in a hurry to repeat the experience.  The early miles were very boring but I would like to go back and do some of the circular walks in Northumberland where I found the scenery to be spectacular.  I can recommend the views from the beer garden of the Centurion pub along the way!
