Story

Hi all! Ren here...

Welcome to 'Walking the Wall'. After some discussion with my good friend Owen, we decided to walk the entire length of Hadrian's Wall in summer 2011. Since we are both keen Ancient History undergrads at Swansea University, it seemed perfect.

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE WALL:

- The wall was commissioned by the Roman emperor Hadrian in 122AD as a 'taxation' border between the north and south tribes in England.

- The wall extends 73 miles from Carlisle in the west, to Newcastle in the east. It was known as the strongest frontier in the empire at its time.

WHAT WE PLAN TO DO:

We are hoping to walk along the entirety of the wall within a week without the aid of a car taking our stuff for us. What we have, we will carry. Because of laws and licenses and what-not, there will be parts of the wall we will have to miss and walk next to... but you get the idea. We will camp where we can (and maybe stop off at a proper camp site for a shower, ugh!) but we plan to be doing this as basically as the Romans did 2000 years ago.

Please help us raise enough money to make a difference! Real Aid are a great charity and help with so much. They're diverse and happy to help any way they possibly can - it would be great to give them something in return.
