THANK YOU TO ALL THE WALKERS AND SPONSORS.

Sunday March 7th's sponsored 'Walk for Tabita' for Voluntary Services Overseas raised nearly £700 to train community midwives in Africa and other countries.
Jane Quayle from VSO said she was delighted to hear that so many women had walked and that sponsors had been so generous 'this money will go a long way to support women's health projects overseas'.
23 women, 5 children and 2 dogs walked over 4 miles on Latrigg Fell. The walkers ranged in age from baby Isaac at 11 months to Jo a youthful 80 years old.
Everyone had a fantastic day in the spring sunshine and enjoyed a picnic on the top of the Fell with wonderful views over Keswick and the Lakeland mountains.
Sal Cawley, from Penrith based company Walks for Women, who organised the walk said  'publicising the walk through local newspapers and local radio generated a lot of interest and prompted women to come on the walk. We hope to do an annual walk for a women's charity each year around International Women's Day on March 8th. So if women from Cumbria are interested they can get in touch with me via my website www.walksforwomenlakedistrict.co.uk'

The Walks for Women Walk for Tabita was on Sunday 7 March - the day before International Women’s Day. This is to honour Tabita, a Sierra Leonean women who lost her baby because she did not have access to a trained midwife.

Tabita is just one of thousands of women that VSO health workers and local health workers see each year. Like Tabita, many are forced to walk for days to reach a trained midwife - often without medication or assistance - and sadly often too late to save the unborn child.

Sal Cawley is an an ex VSO volunteer (Sarawak and Sudan) and a retired NHS health worker. She now owns and guides walks for Walks for Women and walked with other women, children and female health workers up Latrigg Fell near Keswick on the wheelchair accessible path. Women of all ages, abilities and disabilities joined us.
