Most people start thinking about putting their feet up and taking it easy when they reach 70.  Not Walter Wells.  He's going on a walkabout . . .

For his 70th birthday - on December 13th - Dr. Wells, emeritus professor at California State University, author, and Marylebone resident, has decided to fly to Patagonia (one of the few places in the world with enough daylight in December!) to make a ONE-DAY, 70- KM TREK to raise funds for CANCERKIN.   Joan, Walter’s first wife of nearly 35 years and the mother of his three sons, died of the disease in 1996.  His second wife, Shelley, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, just one and a half years after they were married.  CANCERKIN’s dedicated team, which offers services seeking to treat the whole person, not just the cancer, provided Shelley and Walter with much needed care and support during a difficult time.

Walter and Shelley have invited some friends along for the trek.  ALL of the other women going on the WallyWalk have had breast cancer and every one of the WallyWalkers (6 in total) has been very personally affected by the disease. So trying to raise a bit of money through the walk just makes sense.

CANCERKIN is an important charity for breast cancer patients and their families, as the services it provides seek to treat the whole person, not just the cancer.  Its wide range of services supports a healing process and includes complementary therapies, one-to-one and group support, a specialist lymphoedema clinic, as well as factual information, seminars for health professionals, and funding for research.

Cancerkin urgently needs to secure it's future and we hope you can join us in helping raise funds towards such a good cause.   Cancerkin is a registered charity (no. 1085517) and its services are free of charge, regardless of where the patient happens to be treated. The charity receives no statutory funding but depends entirely on voluntary support.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor Cancerkin.  Cancerkin will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor the WallyWalk now!
