Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I’m due to travel to Dharamsala, in the Indian Himalaya, in mid-November 2009 to go on trek for a fortnight to raise funds for The EllenorLions Hospices Charity.
The trek begins with an audience with the Dalai Lama, and the expedition follows the Uhl River, taking in Hindu settlements and isolated Buddhist monasteries.
Many of you will be familiar with this excellent organisation which provides specialist hospice care to over 2,500 children and adults each year within the North West Kent and South East London area - both in the community and in the 15-bed Lions Hospice. I have worked closely with specialist nurses and doctors from ‘The Ellenor’ in my time in Dartford and appreciate the superb work they do.
Like all charities they are stressed in the current financial climate and I felt that anything I could do to help raise funding for and awareness of their work would be well worthwhile. I have taken on the Lead Cancer Clinician role at Darent Valley Hospital this year and I guess this is a perfect opportunity for me to see how far (and high) I can push my 50-something year old frame while raising as much money for ‘The Ellenor’ as possible.
