Story

Bismillah......Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page, Please try and read to the bottom... If you have any questions please email me on kilimanjaro_2010@live.co.uk Please dont forget GIFT AID!

The daily news reminds us that there is always a war going on someplace in the world.

One subsides, another breaks out!!!

Often lost in the sheer magnitude of global violence is its devastating and increasing impact on children. An estimated 2 million children have died in the last decade, 250.000 forced to participate in fighting, and thousands more killed or maimed by land mines. Survival is just the beginning; children’s wartime experiences require long-term physical and psychological recovery.

Psycho-social rehabilitation centre Afghanistan

The exceptional stress of living in wartime conditions and watching friends, family and even strangers killed and wounded is unthinkable for most of us to bear. Children are an especially vulnerable segment of society as they can internalise and be traumatised by the effects of war in a way which is never visible to us physically.

Desperately needed, the need for psychosocial rehabilitation can be greatly underestimated. MH has set up trauma centres to help children return to a state of routine and normalcy discussing through their experiences and working through their trauma. The centre caters for parents and children, providing psychotherapy, group counselling sessions, recreational trips and a research centre.

For this very reason I am about to embark on a most strenuous, life changing and challenging journey to the Summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro

Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and fourth highest of the Seven Summits. It is among the tallest freestanding mountains in the world, with Uhuru Peak rising to an altitude of 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet.

Some of the risks I can face whilst trying to reach the summit are: Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) is a life-threatening illness that can develop from AMS, HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema)and many others. 40% of the attempts made on Kilimanjaro end in FAILURE. That’s approximately 12,000 individuals every year. The “rule of thumb” for chances of success based on climbing days is as follows; 5-days 50%, 6-days 60%, 7-days 70%, 8-days 80% and 9-day 90% success rate.

I will be attempting to reach the summit in 5 DAYS!

Oh dear, I can hear the story lines already! (HEHE) I believe in myself to reach the summit in 5 days (god willing) I believe in your support, I believe in your prayers and most IMPORTANTLY I believe that each and one of us can work together in the smallest amounts to the largest to Positively change many if not one child’s life

The questions now comes
