Tilly Monks was born 17th May 2010 with Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF) a rare congenital condition that affects one in every 3,500 babies and is when a baby is born with a conjoined windpipe and esophagus. For Tilly, the condition dictated that she had to be transferred immediately from Warrington Hospital to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and within 24 hours she had undergone major surgery to separate her esophagus from her windpipe, then had both ends of her esophagus connected. Post operation, Tilly was admitted to Intensive Care where she stayed for the next 4 days before being transferred to the Neo Natal unit for a further 5 days.
Whilst at Alder Hey, Tilly received exceptional care, the skill of the surgeons undoubtedly saved her life and the amazing care received when in ICU and Neo Natal has subsequently helped Tilly on her road to recovery.
Whilst at Alder Hey it became apparent how many children are seriously ill and put into perspective the fantastic work that is performed by the hospital. This appeal is intended as a thank you but also to support the pioneering work undertaken at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
All donations will help make a difference by enabling the hospital to research medical conditions, buy vital equipment, build a better environment and provide dedicated facilities for children and their families.
By way of thanks and in recognition of the high level of care Tilly received I-fituk Manchester would like to raise money to support further families affected by this condition and those children that require ongoing treatment at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
