The event – called ‘50 50 50’ – aims to find 50 runners, or teams of runners, running 50 miles to raise £50,000 for The Christie Hospital’s School of Oncology in Manchester.
The event will take place in Macclesfield, Cheshire, and will see individual runners run a flat, scenic 50-mile point-to-point route. Teams of up to five can also share the 50-mile challenge and split the course into five 10-mile loops.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres and treats over 44,000 patients a year. The hospital serves a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, and, as a national specialist, around 26% of patients are referred from areas across the UK and overseas.
The £50,000 the team hopes to raise will be donated to The Christie School of Oncology, which is the largest cancer research and treatment centre in Europe. It provides a teaching environment across all professions. However, the school now needs to expand to develop their education further over the next five years.
