<p class="MsoPlainText" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">After enduring the snow, sleet, hail, rain and wind of a typical Brecon March day, we finally crossed the line 9 hours and 27 minutes after starting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was as demanding a challenge as I remembered, but undertaken with the perfect combination of unrelenting determination, a competitive spirit and a lot of humour.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A huge thanks must go to the organisers at the Mitchemp Trust who were, as always, faultless in their preparation, and in their encouragement.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top: 7.5pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 11.25pt; margin-left: 0cm; line-height: 135%;"><span style="font-size: 9.0pt; line-height: 135%; font-family: &amp;amp;quot; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">Our team of 4 teachers from the Wellington Academy will climb 10 of the highest mountains in the Brecon Beacons within 10 hours and raise at least <strong>£1000</strong> for the Mitchemp Trust’s work with vulnerable young people. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top: 7.5pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 11.25pt; margin-left: 0cm; line-height: 135%;"><span style="font-size: 9.0pt; line-height: 135%; font-family: &amp;amp;quot; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">Last year, 3 members of staff took part in this challenge and were one of only 2 groups to successfully complete the course within the time limit. We also managed to raise the £1000 target through a number of events. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top: 7.5pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 11.25pt; margin-left: 0cm; line-height: 135%;"><span style="font-size: 9.0pt; line-height: 135%; font-family: &amp;amp;quot; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">The money was spent on 6 of our Year 7 students, all from challenging backgrounds, disaffected and with little in the way of self-esteem. The programme runs over three years and is centred around outdoor residential challenges. The results have been remarkable.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top: 7.5pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 11.25pt; margin-left: 0cm; line-height: 135%;"><span style="font-size: 9.0pt; line-height: 135%; font-family: &amp;amp;quot; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">It is a local charity, working with local young people, and very effective. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top: 7.5pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-bottom: 11.25pt; margin-left: 0cm; line-height: 135%;"><span style="font-size: 9.0pt; line-height: 135%; font-family: &amp;amp;quot; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">This year we intend to beat both our time around the course and the amount of money we raise. This is no easy feat, believe me!</span></p>
