Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. I'm Wes Friedel and I am attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro as part of The Football League charity of the season in association with Barnet Football Club where I assist the groundsman. Mount Kilimanjaro stands at 19,340 feet and is the World’s highest freestanding mountain, the climb and descent will last seven days and includes camping in freezing conditions at night and seeing all four season of weather in 5 days!
At the age of 20 I underwent 12 hours of surgery to remove a malignant tumour from the roof of my mouth, thankfully I made a full recovery. Marie Curie were the only organisation outside of the hospital to offer me support and at the time I promised myself I would one day undertake a challenge of some sort to repay the help and support I was given, this is my chance.
Marie Curie set a minimum level of £3,750 sponsorship, this is a massive challenge and I ask every one of you to get behind me in any way possible. Every penny raised will be helping local nurses continue the vital work they carry out. Marie Curie nurses now care for around 50 per cent of all cancer patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home. Marie Curie Nursing is always free of charge to patients and carers.
Scientists funded by Marie Curie Cancer Care are at the forefront of cancer research. They focus on how the cells of our bodies should normally operate; what causes these processes to go wrong, leading to cancer; and how better treatments can be developed.
My fundraising target is what I need to raise in order to take part, please give what you can no matter how big or small, it all helps. Thank you for reading and please highlight this to friends, family or anyone else you know.
