Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Update - we all completed the West Highland Way as planned and on schedule and the walk was a great experience for us.

The fundraising gig at The Bongo Club Edinburgh on May 29th was a huge success and raised £1600, well done to all involved and many thanks to all the bands who played.

On May 8th 2009 two members of staff, Robbie Wood and Jamie Anderson, and a young service user, Ryan Gallagher, from Autism Initiatives UK will begin a sponsored fancy dress walk along the entire route of the West Highland Way ( approx 100 miles ) over the course of a week to raise funds for the Edinburgh Autism Resource day services. This money will help support young people with autism to live more independently with dignity and respect and we also aim to raise awareness of autism.

I hope you will consider making a donation to this cause.

You will find more information about Ryan below,

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Autism Initiatives UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Ryan is a gentle 19 year old young man who has autism spectrum disorder and learning difficulties. He is non verbal and sometimes finds it difficult to communicate his needs and to make sense of our world. One of his favourite pleasures in life is to walk in the countryside he loves the freedom and the happiness he feels when outdoors. Ryan attends Autism Initiatives day services in Edinburgh and intends to walk the West Highland Way to raise funds for both his day centres and a new wheelchair for one of his peers who also attends the centres. So as well as walking for a very worthy cause Ryan will also benefit from the pleasure and happiness this will bring to him.
