Story
The Geography Department at the University of Sheffield runs annual field classes for both Masters level (MA International Development, MPH (Masters in Public Health) International Development and MSc. Environmental Change and International Development) and third year undergraduate students to West Pokot, a remote part of north-western Kenya. These field classes give students the chance to practically apply their research skills through undertaking projects of their own design across three villages; Marich, Mbara and Tikeet.
Sparked by the slow progress of the construction of a much needed health clinic, 2010's students established 'West Pokot Week' as a way of raising money to 'give back' to those communities that donate their time to partake in students' research year-on-year. Money raised is channelled through and distributed for a variety of poverty relief, health, nutrition, education and capacity-building projects by the Marich Pass Field Studies Centre. Inititally, the money we raise will go towards the completion of Tikeet's health clinc.
