Story
2.8km "King of The Bays" Ocean Swim, Auckland, N.Z.
What's so special?
New Zealands premier ocean swimming event attracting an international field of 1,000 people. 99.5% wear wetsuits as you can see from the picture on the left....I will be part of the 0.5% in my "Calvin Kleins" so to speak and trying to raise £100+ per km.
Why are the others in wetsuits?
1. Provides bouyancy giving significant boost to speed, hiding poor open water swimming technique and improving endurance in the strong tidal flow.
2. Guard against cold April water temps improving endurance / reducing fatigue.
3. Stop the shark bite going too deep - OK made this one up as whilst Hammerheads and Bronze Whalers breed / frequent the area it's not Sydney...
What are the key words / phrases here?
Good charity supporting kiddies (see the link on the left for Greenhouse), fun international event, no subsidising my participation through your donations (I'm personally fronting entry, travel etc), so why not.
Quid pro quo?
You get warm fuzzy feelings for supporting a charity in times where many are struggling. I get to escape the inlaws for the day in aid of a good cause.
After donation service?
By donating to greenhouse through this page you will receive a race day report and potentially a link to a few photos on the photography page of www.quixal.com (if the snaps turn out to be flattering enough :-)
If you are a UK tax payer make sure you do the gift aid thing.
Appreciate your support.
