Story
25th to 26th March 2011
Weymouth Swimming Club are staging a charity fundraising event in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.
The Swimathon will start at 6.30pm on Friday 25th March and will involve the whole of Weymouth Swimming Club - with every member swimming at least 50m.
The event will start with the daughter of one of the coaches who unfortunately lost his battle with cancer in 2010. She will swim the first 50m, followed by the different ability groups.
The event will continue throughout the night with older swimmers, then through the day (Saturday) with other club members.
The last hour and a half (5pm until 6.30pm) will be slightly different. From 5pm for 20 minutes, the synchonised swimmers will give a display - before a traditional swimarathon during the last hour.
The last hour's swimarathon will involve 6 teams of up to 15 swimmers - swimming a 50m race. The team with the most laps will win a cup/shield.
The teams will consist of Weymouth Swimming Club swimmers with mixed abilities, a team made up of SLM staff (the Weymouth swimming pool staff) and a team made up of Weldmar Hospicecare Staff and family.
