To celebrate the onset of middle age, I will be competing in the Boneshaker Duathalon on Sunday 20th September (2 days after my 45th birthday). Its a 5k run + 20k bike + 5k run followed by a 10 hour sleep.
I'm aiming to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the Whittington Hospital, London. The Whittington NICU has been giving our baby one to one care since he was transferred there in June this year, his 4th hospital since birth.
Elias was born on 9th December 2008, 16 weeks early. At this age, almost 80% of babies die within the first few weeks. Those that survive have a high chance of mental and physical disability. Despite being in hospital for over 9 months, suffering numerous infections and undergoing six operations, Elias is now almost ready to come home and we consider ourselves to be amongst the lucky parents.
The staff in the Whittington NICU save the lives of many babies each year. Elias is one of these babies and we would like to give something back to them by raising a little money for their unit.
Thank you very much for your support, I'll let you know if I make it.
Andrew, Lena, Tilda and Elias.
