Cross Solent Rescue boat paddle · 2 August 2014

Ryde Inshore Rescue provides an independent Inshore Life Boat service to HM Coastguard. On call 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Their voluntary crews provide the primary inshore safety for the SE Solent from Osbourne Bay to St Helens including Ryde Sands.

Story

Ryde Inshore Rescue's two boats were vandalised recently, rendering them un-usable.
This saddened me deeply and I knew I had to do something to show my support.
I wanted to do something nautical, and I knew my colleagues at Wightlink would get behind me and support Ryde Inshore Rescue.
After getting permission from Wightlink, we are planning to use the Rescue boat that is kept in stores as a spare, and paddle it from Portsmouth Harbour Station, to Ryde Pier Head, a distance of nearly 5 miles.
There will be a team of 4 in the boat paddling at any one time, with 4-5 teams changing over in a sort of relay.

The crossing will take place in the afternoon of Saturday 2nd August 2014, and will probably take around 2-3 hours.

Please give generously to this worthy cause.
