Early in June 2008, Andrew and Catharine Wigram, along with Andrew's sister, Ruth, climbed Ben Nevis - the mountain of heaven. They tackled a route fom the north, which they’d not attempted before, to reach the 1,344m summit of the highest mountain in Britain.
This climb, however, was not just about reaching the top. It was about rising to a challenge, and raising much-needed funds for CORD’s work of bringing new life after conflict, waging peace, around the world....
....in the deserts of eastern Chad, where 82,000 refugees and displaced people are relying on CORD for the education of their children.
....in Burundi, where 90,000 people have recently returned home after years in exile to rebuild their homes, lives and communities with CORD’s help.
....in northern Uganda, where there are finally signs that a lasting peace might be achieved, CORD is working to support local community groups as they seek to reclaim an entire culture devastated by conflict.
....in Cambodia, where the desolation of the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s still leaves its scars, working with 7 local groups to improve their access to jobs and to help with fishing projects.
“We are raising money for CORD’s work in eastern Chad, with 82,000 refugees who have fled conflict in Darfur, Sudan. In four different refugee camps, in the middle of a desert, CORD is providing education for children and adults, support for small businesses and care for vulnerable members of the community. We know that whatever you can spare will make a world of difference to this really important work. Thank you.”
