Flora London Marathon 2005 · 17 April 2005 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Hi. As promised, I managed to run the London Marathon in April for the Leukaemia Research Fund. A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored me.

Those of you who know me will also know that in 1998 my daughter Mattea (we call her Mattie) was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of just 15 months. After two years of chemotherapy and lots of help and support from the NHS, friends and support charities, we were able to start putting our lives back together. Mattie (pictured left, with the old man) is now a happy, healthy 7-year old, and we feel it's time to give something back. That's why my chosen recipient was the LRF. Their extraordinary work will one day ensure that leukaemia is no longer a threat to life, and it's vital that they get the financial support they need to continue their research. Julie raised nearly £6,000 for the LRF last year by running the Marathon, so between us (and with your help) we've made a healthy contribution. We're now thinking about one last effort to make it to the £10,000 mark.
