Brake, the road safety charity
Brake is a national road safety charity that works to stop death and injury on UK roads and to support people who have been bereaved or injured by a road crash. Brake runs Road Safety Week, a national awareness-raising initiative in schools, companies and communities, conducts research into the cause of crashes to inform the government and road users, runs an education service for employers to teach them about their responsibilities for safety when running fleets of vehicles and shouts loudly in the media about the importance of road safety to influence drivers to take more care.

The boots are on, the training is underway and the countdown has begun for

William's Walk - 28 June 2008

Myself and 26 of my fantastic colleagues and friends are on for the 3 Peaks Challenge. This is no stroll in the park!! We will be walking 25 miles over 3 of Yorkshire's finest peaks in just 12 hours.

The following 'stars' are walking with me not only to remember that fab little guy pictured left but also to raise money for Brake. Alison, Belinda, Carly, Christine, Claire, Debbie, Diane, Elaine, Janine, John, Jonathan, Karen, Karen, Linzi, Maria, Marion, Michael, Neil, Nicola, Nikki, Paul, Paula, Rachel, Rosie, Sarah and Tracey.

William, my first born, beautiful son was killed as a result of a terrible road traffic accident in May 2007, he was 8 years old. The whole family has been devasted by his death, we miss him so desperately. We set out on that morning as a happy family of five looking forward to a fun holiday with our friends. Within an hour of setting out William was dead and our lives were instantly shattered. I now realise that on that day we were only one of 9 families receiving the dreadful news that their child, partner, parent or sibling would never be coming home. Let's help Brake to spread the road safety message and save others from hearing this dreadful news. I composed the following poem, I think it says where I'm at.

My life without William

This isn't right, my son is gone
It makes no sense, it must be wrong.
You know the one, the blondy guy
Toothy grin and gorgeous smile.
I watched him grow, to nearly nine
A handsome dude, so very fine.
He can't come back, he never will
My heart is broken, and time's stood still.
I yearn to hold him, to touch his face
But in his bed an empty space.
At dinner time, just four plates
The dog so sad, just sits and waits.
My life's so empty and full of pain
And every day it's there again.
I know that one day, when my work here's done
We'll meet again and we'll be one.
I'll take his hand, I'll kiss his face
And he'll lead me to a better place

Reached £2K target in just one week.!!!! I never could have imagined that ,in my wildest dreams. I am blown away by everyone's kindness and generosity, and the messages are just wonderful.

UPDATE 2
The £3K target has now been reached a little over a month after the webpage began. That is just amazing!!! The money is fantastic because it's going to such a worthwhile cause but the messages of support just mean the world. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH TO EVERYONE INVOLVED. With still over 2 months to go I thought it worthwhile raising the bar again, let's see what we can do!!

UPDATE 3
As I faced one of my darkest days yesterday, the 1st anniversary of Will's death, a little ray of sunshine shone though as we reached the 4K target. This amazing website and all the wonderful people who have already visited it really have helped keep me going - THANK YOU ALL xxxxxxx
Perhaps we could even make 5K!!!
