Story

Fire fighters from Williton fire station will be raising funds for The Grand Appeal “Cots for Tots” campaign for Bristol Children’s Hospital over the next few weeks.

The “Cots for Tots” Appeal needs to raise £1 million to support the expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by providing a suite of four intensive care cot’s and associated state-of-the-art equipment.

It is the only Quaternary Unit in the South West region equipped to provide this level of treatment, and as result any baby born in Bristol, the South West or South Wales requiring life-saving surgery is automatically referred to the NICU.

Next weekend the fund raising will start with Mark Bulpin, a fire fighter from Williton running the Taunton Half Marathon. This will be followed on the 6th April by a group of Williton fire fighters who will be carrying out a “Kayak-a-thon” between Taunton and Bridgwater along the canal. Some will also be running the tow path whilst others will be cycling the journey; all money raised will go to the above mentioned charity.

The day begins at Morrison’s Car park at 7.45am, and they aim to end at Bridgwater docks at around 5.00pm.

All donations of £5.00 or over will be entered into a draw to win a FATYAK Kayak and accessories worth over £350.00, kindly donated by DESO of Williton, who have also helped in many other ways with this event.

Please give anything you can to help us to support this very worthwhile cause and do come down and cheer us on. We expect to 'set sail' down the canal by 8.30am, to arrive at Maunsel Lock Canal Centre between 12-1pm, and then leave for The Boat and Anchor Pub in Bridgwater. We hope to leave there by 4pm and head for the finish at Bridgwater Docks.

We really hope to see you along the way. The more the merrier! Thank you!
