Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 2013 · 4 August 2013 ·

The Mental Health Foundation believe no-one living in the UK should be deprived of the opportunity for good mental health because of who they are, the community they come from or where they live. We’re developing better ways to support good mental health in every community.

Story

Well, after my little tumble on a Welsh hill and the best part of a year off the bike, and after the surgery and some fairly serious metalwork in my arm, I find out from the Mental Health Foundation, that my 2013 place was deferred, and I am automatically awarded a place in the Ride London 100 2014.
Brilliant.
And just as I was redeveloping a taste for ale and curry.
So...
Let's stop clowning.
I'm back on the bike, putting the miles in and I'm going to have this.
Spare some change guvnor...?

**June 2013 UPDATE**
Most folk already know this but I thought I should post an update in order to be totally clear.
I had an accident on a bike up a mountain in North Wales. Well, strictly speaking the accident happened when I came off the bike, if you're being pedantic about it. Either way I became close and intimate friends with the rocky surface of this planet at considerable velocity.
The outcome of this beautiful union was a thoroughly minced left side. Twice broken wrist, twice broken ulner, broken radius, thrice broken clavical and a couple of broken ribs for good measure.
Needless to say I will not be riding in this years Ride London 100 mile event. However, both my place on the race and the money raised so far can be easily deferred to next year. So see you then

LET'S RIDE BIKES!
I love riding bikes.
Really really love it.
So I decided to sign up for the RideLondon100, 100 miles of pure bike riding pleasure around London and parts of the Olympic Road Race route. Now by pure bike riding pleasure I mean speed, sweat, snot, pain, numbness, burning thighs, aching arse and most likely a healthy dose of chafing.
Pure cycling pleasure.
I also figure that if I am going to do this I might as well use it as a crowbar to get some of your hard earned out of your pockets and into the coffers of The Mental Health Foundation. I'm not going to eulogise about the excellent work of the MHF, or how 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year, or how only 10% of the UK prison population DON'T have a mental illness, I will leave you to explore their website if you want to know what they do and why they do it.
I am aiming to do this at pace and complete in approx 6 hours, so donate some money and if you want come and shout at me from the lovely environs of Richmond Park.
You'll be able to hear me coming. I'll be the one panting, grunting and hissing "shut up legs" through gritted teeth.
