Rotary Mountain Challenge · 12 June 2010

Sightsavers' vision is of a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes and where visually impaired people participate equally in society.

Story

We are 6 members of Windsor St George Rotary club, plus 2 friends of the club.  The intrepid group are taking part in the Rotary Mountain Challenge in June 2010, to raise funds for Sightsavers International.

The challenge involves teams of six walkers, supported by two drivers, are challenged to climb a mountain in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours – each mountain is over 3000ft.   The three mountains that the team will climb are: Ben Nevis, Great Britain’s highest mountain, Helvellyn in the Lake District, and Snowdon in Wales.  More details about the event can be found here:  http://www.sightsavers.org/get_involved/community_groups/10217.html

Who are Sightsavers International?

Sightsavers International is an international charity which works with partners to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people in the developing world.  Last year, Sightsavers helped to:

  • Treat over 3.7 million people for potentially blinding conditions
  • Carry out 274,178 sight-restoring cataract operations
  • Provide training and support to 8,670 people who are irreversibly blind
