Trust PA Spinal Injury Charity, was set up in memory of Paul-Andre Blundell (PA), who was totally paralysed during a rugby tackle and later died. He had hoped to benefit from the work to restore movement and sensation. TPA funds pioneering repair operations as seen on BBC TV. 10-12 more needed asap.

Story

Trust PA - Helping Spinally Injured People

Trust PA is working to raise as much money as possible to complete the meticulous testing of repair treatments under controlled scientific conditions before the end of this decade.

This will certify the safe and effective results for use in human patients in NHS hospitals. The reason that we are very excited and so keen to fund this work is that the recent scientific breakthrough is exceptional in its effectiveness.

We believe that we are in a similar position with spinal cord repair now, to that of Sir Christian Barnard forty years ago with open heart surgery. His pioneering work lead to the many heart repair treatments which are now routinely available.

Similarly, our project is the 'open sesame' for many spinal cord and other closely related neurological repair treatments for the future.

Our success shows that we have not been idle! Trust PA milestones - Charitable status was granted by the Charities Commission - July 2002. 1st donation to Air Ambulance £1,000 at our Charity Launch Ball Oct. 2002. Total raised by the end of our first year £54,420. The Beacon Prize - Highly Commended Aug. 2003. 2nd donation -Trust PA Winter Ball, £50,000 to spinal research Nov. 2003. 3rd donation - £ 4,400 to spinal research, Aug 2004. 4th donation - Trust PA Winter Ball, £50,000 to spinal research Nov 2004. The exciting stage now is that the Spinal Repair Unit in London is now open (Jan 2005) and will start treating volunteer subjects within the next two to three years. Scientists and neurosurgeons now believe that, before the end of this decade, when the trials are complete, it will be possible to repair spinal cord injury in men, women and children. I hope that you will assist Trust PA to achieve its goal - to enable a future where paralysis is no longer an inevitability. So please donate now! Many thanks for your support. PS.
