Story
Prague, December 1938 - the German occupation is imminent and thousands of refugees and Czech citizens are desperate to flee to safety. Nicholas Winton, a young British stockbroker on holiday, is shocked by their plight, particularly that of the children whose lives he knew to be in jeopardy. He could not walk away. In just three weeks, thousands of distraught parents were interviewed; those who had the courage to part with their children. His supreme effort resulted in eight trains leaving Prague bringing a total of 669 children to the safety of Great Britain- the last only days before the borders were closed. Today thousands of people all over the world owe him and his brave team of helpers their lives. Sir Nicholas continues to inspire generations through his charitable work and deeds.
To celebrate Sir Nicholas’s 100th Birthday and on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of this fateful rescue, a Memorial Sculpture will be erected in Prague's Central Station. We trust its message will inspire thousands of people and generations to come. http://video.aol.com/video-detail/nicholas-winton-o-heri-annimo-da-segunda-guerra/396316806217213895
