On Sunday 1 November 2009, members of the West Midlands Police (W.M.P) Ladies Football Team will undertake a challenge to ride from Birmingham City Centre to on indoor cycles. Each member of the group will have a pre-determined number of hours they must cycle for to complete the challenge, ranging from 6 to 8 hours throughout the day. Our aim is to collectively cycle nearly 3000 kilometres.
Throughout the day, we will also be participating in a variety of entertaining events which will include Playstation Knockout competitions, Bingo and Karaoke.
The main aim of this event is to raise money and awareness for a fantastic establishment working in Moseley, . The National Institute for Conductive Education (NICE) provides a number of invaluable services and support to Children, Adults and Parents of children with physical disabilities such as Cerebal Palsy, Dyspraxia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons, Stroke and Head Injuries. The institute needs £500,000 each year to continue to provide the current level of services and relies heavily on fundraising and donations to achieve this target.
NICE was brought to attention of the team by a wonderful little girl called Ruby. At 18months old Ruby was diagnosed with Athetoid Cerebral Palsy. Ruby, now 4 years old, attends both NICE and her local school and been able to transfer skills learnt at NICE at home and school. One of Ruby's recent achievments has been to walk a few steps without her frame for the first time, due to the specialist support at NICE and not forgetting Ruby's determination and fierce independence in order to achieve this!
The aim is to raise as much money as we can to ensure that as many children as possible are given the opportunity to have the specialist support at NICE for them to be independent and achieve their very best just like Ruby has.
