Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am the Headteacher at King David Primary School in Manchester and one of my Year 5 pupils, Joey has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The school has decided to make Duchenne Now its charity of the year for 2015-2016. Joey is an amazing, inspiring young man who always has a smile in spite of his condition and the obvious pain that he often experiences. He has inspired me to something BIG to support Duchenne and lead the way for the whole school to get moving in raising money to continue to find a cure for this condition that affects so many lives.
Last year, three members of staff at the school jumped out of a plane to raise money for Duchenne which was an amazing and very brave thing to do. My challenge is a bit more grounded but still extremely tough....
I have roped in my husband, Paul, and we are running in the Rat Race Man vs Mountain epic challenge in September 2016.(http://ratrace.com/manvsmountain2016/) It is a gruelling 22 miles from the Welsh coast at Caernarfon Castle inland to the summit of Snowdon, back down and then a small matter of quarry swims, obstacles and an abseil to get through, over and under before finishing in Llanberis!!!
Between November 2015 and throughout the next 11 months, we will be entering some other tough challenges to prepare for the "big one". The longest race I have run before is a 10km road race so all of this is a huge challenge for me. We already have our week by week training and nutrition plans in place! We will keep everyone posted on these 'training races' as they happen.
I'm honestly terrified of the physical and mental challenges I will face in preparing for this during the next 11 months but I've decided that if Joey can overcome the challenges he faces every day then the least I can do is run up and down a mountain!
Thankyou in advance for all your support.
Nicola and Paul.
