Welcome to our Worlds Apart 3 Peaks Challenge page. Worlds Apart are proud to be supporting the CHICKS charity (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) and in order to help raise awareness and money we have pulled a team of people together to take on the 3 Peaks challenge. At Worlds Apart we like a bit of a challenge and as 3 Peaks means climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (a total of 3,407 metres climbing, over 23 miles of walking and 400 miles of driving) over a day and a half seems like a good place to start! We will be trekking in the dark, sleeping in a van, tending sore feet and living in such close proximity that we will know each other better than we ever possibly imagined! But it will also give us a huge sense of pride, exhilaration and amazing euphoria at completing such an amazing challenge for an incredibly worthwhile charity. They receive no government funding and rely solely on the help and support of local communities. The children referred to CHICKS come from very difficult backgrounds; most have suffered some form of physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Others have the responsibility of caring for a sick or disabled relative and some live in care. All the children referred have little to look forward to and little hope for the future. During their stay at the CHICKS retreats the children enjoy new and exciting activities such as horse riding, swimming, abseiling, rock climbing as well as trips to the beach and zoo. In quieter moments they get to bounce on the sunken trampolines, face paint, make arts and crafts, read or even play chess. On their final day they are provided with hand-made (by volunteers) Wish Bags, which include items to remind them or their holiday and a collage of photos to remind them of the friends they have made and the fun they have had. Having visited and spent time with CHICKS volunteers it is truly amazing, and humbling, to see what they do for the children and Worlds Apart take great pride in supporting them.
