Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community and focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. We are campaigning to increase the national investment in research to £35 million per year and funding sustainable Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Story

Five years ago, following a series of terrible headaches, I was taken into hospital. Scans revealed there was ‘a mass’ on my brain. My worst fears were realised: a brain tumour.

There followed a terrible few days in Royal Preston Hospital:  Was it operable? Could it be removed? Would there be any lasting damage?

Is this IT?

I have known several people who have had brain tumours: Sadly, all of them died.

Fortunately, the tumour was operable and was removed completely but I had to wait several days to find out the results of the biopsy. How malignant was it? Could it recur? Had it spread elsewhere?

Fortunately, it turned out to have been a “benign” tumour and in a place where it could be removed:  I’m told it is “unlikely” to return but I still need periodic MRI scans to check everything is OK.

The dedicated staff at Royal Preston Hospital has my eternal gratitude.

That’s my story.

Since then, I’ve always wanted to ‘do something’ to try and raise money, so this year I decided to set myself a challenge and I’ve chosen to do the Hadrian’s Wall Walk.

I'll be doing the walk in mid-June.
