Story
Hi folks
I really do hate asking people for money...if there's a quid-pro-quo, I'll be administering 42 kms worth of punishment on myself. Some might think that's worth it?!
Anyway - this will be my second marathon. At the end of the first one, 2 years ago, I vowed never to do it again. Box ticked. Got the running vest, the indescribable aches in places that surely shouldn't exist and a worn-in pair of trainers.
Somehow, the inability to say 'no' reared its head again and I found myself re-stacking the pasta cupboard and visiting small shops to buy sachets of banana-flavoured gel.
The charity that had no trouble in turning my head was Tommy's. Most people have vaguely heard of them, without realising what they do.
Well, it turns out that what they do affects a great number of us.
They save babies - and try to save more through research into helping babies survive the womb and labour. The UK loses over 4000 babies every year. The ripple effect of each death goes far. Parents are devastated, as are grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, cousins...lives, not just the one that was lost, are ruined. Holding your dead baby in your arms is...well...not something I can describe very well.
I lost a child - she died during birth. I have not been the same since.
I don't want anyone else going through that, which is why I'm doing what I can to help Tommy's further their work and save more babies and the lives around them. And which is why, despite hating asking people for money, I hope you can spare a few quid.
