In February 2006, in a moment of temporary insanity, three friends and I joined in the 10 to 4
Mount Kenya Bike Challenge riding mountain bikes from 10,000 feet to 4,000 feet, raising funds for wildlife conservation and community development at the same time! Over 190 people started the event, 180 finished and yours truly was the last competitor to cross the line, some three hours behind the winner! But that’s not the point!
The Born Free team raised a staggering US $12,000 which made our team of four the leading fundraisers.
On 17th February 2007, we will be doing it all again but this time there will be two more in the team so it will be six plus, instead of 52 kms of bumps, grazes, bruises and blood, sweat and plenty of tears, it is going to be 70 kms! Training has begun but this is unlikely to prove adequate for such a challenge. It’s going to hurt!
Not only has the mileage increased but our target for the event has gone up. We aim to raise £10,000 (over US $18,000). Please will you help?
Again, all the money will go to our partner organisation, The Bill Woodley Mount Kenya Trust, for joint projects involving habitat protection, wildlife conservation, anti-snaring and community development. Our pain, their gain. All YOU need to do is supply the incentive (the funds!).
