Story
Thanks for taking a look at our fundraising page. We (Ed and Emma) have collared a mate (Roger) to join us in our attempt to cross Devon from the north to south coast using nothing but our feeble muscles.
By kayaking the Torridge and Dart rivers and cycling the mighty Dartmoor we aim to cross Devon (England's second largest county) in just two days! Roger could no doubt complete the trip in two minutes but as "training is cheating" in Ed and Emma's household, two days is the goal. Vicky (another fab friend) has offered to take on the invaluable role of single-handed support crew to help make our trip happen.
We're planning the trip to raise money for The Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust, a charity very close to our hearts. Jeremy (Jez) was a great friend of Emma's and someone who meant a lot to many people. He led an incredibly active and fulfilling life, so much so that it made you wonder what you did with your time! He was a friend who I greatly admired - an amazingly active, outgoing, kind and successful person. Jez grabbed life in both hands so we think this is the very least we can do to show him how much he meant to so many of us. He would have loved this trip and found it a piece of cake! We're sad that Emma's great friend Matt (Jez's twin bro) isn't able to join us - he's too far across the pond in Oz. Next time Matt!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to The Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.
Please have a look at www.jwct.org.uk to see how the wonderful Willson family are using the trust in Jez's name to help people and projects that reflect Jez's passions in life: athletics, geology, adventure and the environment. Anything you can contribute to help us achieve our target is hugely appreciated. We aim to have fun at the same time as challenging ourselves to complete a different type of adventure - something that Jez did throughout his life with such passion and enthusiasm.
Linking in with North Devon and South Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) 50th Birthdays...
By coincidence (or careful planning) 2010 sees both the North Devon and South Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) celebrate their 50th birthdays as nationally important protected landscapes. Our route links both of these living, working landscapes in this special year and the X-Devon team are proud to be able to add to the celebrations by traversing the county, bringing a gift from the North Devon AONB to the South Devon AONB - on our return a bottle of 'Natural Beauty', the specially brewed South Devon anniversary ale, awaits.
