New York Marathon 2010 · 7 November 2010 ·

Sense is here to support disabled people from the first weeks of life through all the major milestones of adulthood. Over 70 years, we’ve built extensive knowledge and expertise in supporting disabled people with complex needs, including deafblind people.

Story

Following the success of past endeavours such as the “6 Big Mac challenge”, “I ‘play’ like Tiger Woods”, “referring to everyone as ‘Bob’ for a week”, and other, generally food related challenges, by general consensus it has been decided that it is time to up the ante. So the fat and unfit (in hybrid order) came to the logical conclusion that the only manner to regain some form of credibility is by completing the major feat that is the New York marathon.

Given we have already signed up, we are practically half way there already. Furthermore, the mountainous terrain will certainly play into the hands  (or legs) of the Dutch half of the team, whilst the presence of deep-fried hot dog stands on every corner will ensure that the Scottish half won’t veer off piste. Success guaranteed, how hard can this be?  Besides all the enjoyment in running 42.195 kilometres (EU standard measure), not to mention the ecstasy that comes from the preceding months of training for ourselves, we thought it was appropriate to share our joy and run/move for charity.

After much deliberation we decided to run for Sense, which is a wonderful charity helping children and adults who live without the ability to hear and see. Give it a thought, what it is like to live without vision or hearing and, whilst swiftly having moved to the serious part of our adventure-announcement, you will agree that a charity like Sense is doing a fabulous job, not just helping people for a moment, but truly making their lives wonderful through their love and support. Have a look on their website to see what they do and how you can help them www.sense.org.uk.

Another simple way to help is by helping us reach £5,000 pounds for them through sponsoring us, instructions on the page – it only takes a few seconds and would be much, very much, appreciated by us. Also, we are still looking for a team name and slogan, so feel free to share your creative ideas. Given we need to focus and direct our energy to running  that lap, following the 7th rejection accompanied by the stamp ‘inappropriate and/or offensive name’ we decided to pass on thinking of one for now.

Start spreading the news and dig deep!

Thanks,

Xander and John Paul
