At African Revival we believe that real change happens through investment in schools like Cubu, in teachers like Daniel, in today’s children and future generations.
· It costs just £30,000 to transform a classroom block in a school, which will last for 30 years
· That school will educate 23,460 children in its lifetime, with a new generation enrolling each year
· Because of their own education, those children will live longer, earn more, and be more likely to educate their own children.
Head Teacher Daniel Lutwala who teaches at Cubu Primary School in Uganda, epitomises Africa’s hope for the future of its children.
Daniel dreamt of becoming a teacher at just 12, but was beset by the 22 year civil conflict. He witnessed his best friend murdered by rebel soldiers. He was forced to flee from his home. Two days after enrolling at university at the age of 46, 13 of his children were abducted by the Lords Resistance Army. One never returned.
Daniel joined Cubu Primary School in 2005, teaching 4 classes completely alone. When a 12 year old pupil was abducted and murdered on the grounds of the school, Daniel did not let the grief beat him. With African Revival’s help the school constructed a library – a permanent and poignant memorial to the school’s determination to provide education for generations of children to come—no matter what.
