We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.
Story
Dear All,Over 5 years ago Auntie Mary (mum’s sister) was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. This news devastated the entire family, and caring for her has been the responsibility of her husband, children, siblings and friends over the course of the illness. Mary is the kindest, most beautiful, inspiring, cleverest Auntie a girl could wish for, and watching her go through pain and misery has been heartbreaking as the brain disease has taken over. I was shocked to learn 1 in 3 people over 65 will die with dementia... The Alzheimer’s society not only provides extra research to help suffers, it helps the families who care for the hundreds of thousands who suffer from the illness every year. Alzheimer’s as a disease has suffered from a lack of support over other mass killers such as cancer. You may have noticed over the last year or so this is beginning to change due to an increased realisation and subsequent backing from government. On winning The Apprentice I have been given many opportunities. My most privileged gain however is to be in a position to raise awareness around Alzheimer’s, and donate as much money as possible to the charity.Earlier this month we did an awesome fundraising weekend in Nottingham. Those who helped out (you know who you are) and donated money – thank you very much, it was a truly inspiring day. We raised the first £850 towards the £3000 target. Please join me now in raising as much as we possibly can to help others who have been ripped apart by this most debilitating of illnesses. A few years back ran the New York Marathon. My first words after 5 long hours, 34 excruciating minutes, and 24 horrendous seconds were ‘ I am NEVER doing that again’. Then I lit a cigarette. On Sunday April 25th I’m running the London Marathon. Dig deep please. All your donations however large or small will be massively massively appreciated. Thanks guys, Love Yasmina x
At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.
