Adidas Women's 5K Challenge 2009 · 6 September 2009 ·

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

Hey!

I know some of you think I'll just be wheezing through this, but come september I'll be donning the pink t shirt + my very best adidas trainers to run the Women's 5k Challenge http://www.womenschallenge.co.uk/

Those who've seen me running for the bus will know that if needs be these little legs can move! Never mind the fags + wine. Please dig deep and give whatever you can, I'll give you a big sweaty hug after!

Refuge is a fantastic charity who work with women and children who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence. http://www.refuge.org.uk/        As some of you will know, women + children's issues are very close to my heart + I'd be eternally grateful for any size of donation for this very worthy cause. Thank youuu :)

Lots + lots of love

19/06/09- Update!

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for the support, donations, training, love and magic offered by everyone- I've never felt so good about hauling ass through a park :)

I am writing to say that I have made an unclosed donation to the equally worthy                                                                                http://www.mankind.org.uk/

- a charity aimed at men suffering from domestic violence. Men being abused by their partners is an atrocity, and yet, because of the genered limiting of our society, massively under reported. I'd urge you all to also give generously to this cause, though I ought to be clear here that my run is not affiliated with Man Kind in any way. I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable by my choice of charity's exclusion of men, nor do I want anyone to think I'm the sorta feminist who would like to castrate men, then have them hung, drawn and quartered. No way.  I hope this step has redressed the balance, and makes people happier about my intentions. I'm all about the love :)

Thanks again,

Yaz xxx x xx
