The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. RNLI lifeguards provide a seasonal lifeguard service on selected beaches. An average of 21 people are rescued every day from the water, in situations which are often difficult and sometimes dangerous. The RNLI is independent from Government, relying on donations for its income, so can only continue thanks to people like you. The RNLI is a charity registered in England and Wales (209603) and Scotland (SCO37736). Charity number CHY 2678 in the Republic of Ireland.

My story

Extreme Ironing Event

....be a part of our fundraising attempt to break the World Record for the most divers ironing underwater at the same time. Proceeds to the RNLI, a charity registered in England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

On the 10th January 2009 the National Diving & Activity Centre and Yorkshire Divers will be hosting a Guinness World Record Extreme Ironing Event. You are invited to help raise money For the RNLI; a charity providing 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland.

The sport that is 'extreme ironing' is an outdoor activity that combines the danger and excitement of an 'extreme' sport with the satisfaction of a well pressed shirt. It involves taking an iron and board to remote locations and ironing a few items of laundry. Our Guinness World Record attempt will be for the most number of divers underwater ironing at the same time.

The present record is currently held at 72 by an Australian group - we think that we can do better than that, and even in our nice chilly January Waters! So here is your opportunity to support us!

We done it - 128 ironers turned alond with 11 video and photographers, from that 86 have been verified as the photo was taken in the alloted time and was cear enough to see diver and number.

So all thats needed now is for the Guiness World Records to verify out indepenant adudicaton and Job done we have a new record!!
