29th April 2007  Yorkshire YFC Great North Mascot Steeplechase - Wetherby Racecourse

YDMT Tree took part as a complete novice running 1 Furlong (220 yards) over 5 hurdles amongst up to 99 other mascots running for clubs and organisations.

Thank you for supporting me.  The first £25.00 of sponsorship went towards Sue Ryder Care - the mascot steeplechase's designated charity.  The balance was donated to Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.

The next challenge was.........

30th September 2007  BUPA Great North Run - Gateshead to South Shields Half Marathon.

Having put the mascot together I thought one outing wouldn't (or should I say woodn't) be enough so I have decided to wear the tree mascot and try to complete the Great North Run course on Sunday 30th September.  This was a big challenge this year as I had to pull out at mile 3 with an injury last year. 

My sponsorship target was kept low, as friends and family had already dug deep into their pockets over the past two years and helped me to raise £1,700 towards charities, but I was more than happy to exceed that target.

Completed the Great North Run in 3 hours 27 minutes - it was a fantastic experience taking part in the tree costume - although people couldn't see me I was grinning from ear to ear all the way as the support from fellow runners and spectators for the whole length of the run was amazing!!!
