Yvette was ill with aplastic anaemia for six years. Despite this serious illness, she rarely complained and tried to enjoy life. But it was never easy for her. A matching bone marrow stem cell donor could have saved her life. But one was never found for her and she died on May 29th aged just 16. She was intelligent, beautiful and had so much to offer - so much to live for. But she never had that chance. A matching donor would have given her that chance.
During the years of Yvette's illness she was cared for at Children's Hospital. This Star Tribute Fund seeks to raise funds in Yvette's memory to help future oncology and bone marrow transplant patients at Children's Hospital. They really need your support.
Yvette's brave struggle inspired the setting up of Race Against Time (formerly Yvette Gate Bone Marrow Campaign). This campaign raises awareness of the urgent need for more bone marrow donors and actively works to recruit new donors onto the bone marrow register.
