Story

POST-MARATHON UPDATE - Monday 26 April, 2010

I finished the London Marathon in 5 hrs and 17 mins, unfortunately I didn't set the record for fastest marathon as a mascot of 4 hrs 30 mins, but still very proud and happy of achievement. I know I did smash Stamford The Lion and other mascots times though :-) It was extremely tough, much harder than my training prepared me for me, and I got a bad stitch early on and had it for the whole route, making breathing even more difficult - I think I drank too much water, but had to be done.

It was an amazing experience and the support was incredible from Millwall and non-Millwall fans alike, especially through Deptford, Surrey Quays, Tooley Street, Canary Wharf and Embankment. Some disorientating run, and even though was in pain most of the way, I'd consider it again and maybe another challenge for Zampa!

Most of all, I can't thank enough the messages of support and donations. It's been incredible and once we've got in all the £'s, we're going to hit about £11,000 which is well over the target.

Thanks again and keep cheering on Zampa and Millwall!

Hi, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page :-)

I'm Zampa The Lion, the mascot of Millwall FC, who play at The Den in south London, which is also my home! I'm going to be running the London Marathon on 25th April 2010, for Everyman charity. They help to stamp out male cancer, which Millwall FC and many football players are keen supporters of. I hope to raise at least £10,000 through various fundraising events, which you can find out about in Millwall FC's programme, website and local media. Don't be too worried about me running 26 miles, it's a breeze compared to the long treks across the safari before I moved to south London!

Please dig deep and donate now through justgiving. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Everyman is an appeal run by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Every year some 10,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer and over 2,000 others have their world turned upside down by a diagnosis of testicular cancer. These men are the reason we are fundraising for male specific cancers.
