Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

I am raising sponsorship monies for the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) to build a brighter future for disadvantaged communities in developing countries primarily in South and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and theMiddle East. The Aga Khan Foundation supports social and economic development projects designed to benefit the poor without regard to race, gender, religion or political affiliation.

Proceeds will directly support communities with which the AKF is working in partnership. For more information on the work of AKF, please visit: www.akdn.org

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Aga Khan Foundation (United Kingdom) will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Just to remind you that I am running this for the first time and need your support!! I am deep into my training, tirelessly keeping the training going for this AMAZING foundation!
So please sponsor me now!

Did 20 miles on bank holiday Monday after a very busy weekend, am tapering off now for the big day. I have the expectation that it will be hard but 'do-able'. Have stayed relatively injury free and am hoping to remain that way..see you on the 13th April if you're coming to cheer me on!

Its the night before and I just want to say I am so grateful to those that have donated..I'm really looking forward to the run and can promise you all this, that I will do my very best to run the whole thing and not let you all down! Over and out...!!

Many thanks for your support.

MY MARATHON STORY...How did I do??

Here goes, just off to the hospital with a suspected fracture of the right patella, am dosed up with anti-inflamatories and pain killers! With God's help I COMPLETED IT!! I was rocking and rolling the first 5 miles, just under 9 minute miles then and at a water station a runner ran in front of me sending me flying landed badly on my right knee. I had the presence of mind to roll into the kerb (didn't want to cause any other runners to fall over me!). Tried getting up but just couldn't put any weight on my right leg, looked down, my knee was huge!

St Johns Ambulance were reluctant to let me go but eventually a Doctor felt sorry for me, saw my floods of tears he sprayed my knee and allowed me to continue, hard after a 48 minute stop. I was some how able to carry on for a 1/4 of a mile relatively pain free then it started to hurt alot. I was in agony till mile 15. Uptil then I was running pretty fast trying to catch up on my time but from mile 16-21 I was sobbing with pain. People were coming up to me and offering me things to keep me going, I was pretty slow by now.. One old man shouted he loved me, a priest sprayed me with holy water! It was surreal...perhaps I looked as though I was heading for my grave??

21 miles and I called my beautiful daughter Laila who said, 'think about who you are doing it for Mum...'I took out a picture of the Aga Khan-an inspiration to me..and through floods of tears and pain I continued running..a fellow runner said..'walk, you'd find it less painful', but I had promised you all I would try to run the whole thing, and so I did. With tears pouring down my face but a huge smile I crossed the finish still running and the marshal had to tell me-'you can stop running now runner'. I just wanted to say that I would have continued running as long as it took for the Aga Khan Foundation...

Thank you to all my sponsors and supporters on the day. You are the stars!
